Torrential rains unleashed chaos in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district today, triggering multiple flash floods and landslides that wreaked havoc in Panarsa, Takoli, and Nagwain. The relentless downpour, which began Saturday night, sent debris crashing into homes, leaving residents grappling with significant property damage but, fortunately, no reported fatalities. Rescue operations are in full swing, with teams deployed across affected areas to assist stranded residents and clear debris, while authorities have urged people to steer clear of swollen rivers and streams.
The Kiratpur-Manali National Highway, a critical four-lane artery, remains blocked due to severe waterlogging, stranding travelers and disrupting connectivity. A massive landslide near Jogni Mata Temple further exacerbated the crisis, halting vehicular traffic and causing widespread inconvenience. In another incident, the Shalanal stream overflowed, collapsing the boundary wall of a private office. Employees narrowly escaped, but nearby homes sustained heavy damage from the floodwaters.
The district’s streams and drains, swollen by the unrelenting rains, continue to pose risks. Local administration is working tirelessly to restore normalcy, with emergency teams prioritizing rescue and road clearance efforts. The flash floods highlight the region’s vulnerability to extreme weather, prompting calls for improved infrastructure to mitigate future disasters. As Mandi battles the aftermath, residents remain on edge, with forecasts warning of more rain in the coming days.
