The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) enforced a five-hour bandh across Bihar on Thursday to protest derogatory remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother. The agitation, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies, saw widespread demonstrations in districts like Nawada, Katihar, Muzaffarpur, and Darbhanga.
Senior BJP leader and former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad condemned the incident, stating, “Bihar will not forgive those who insulted Modi ji’s late mother. The Congress and its allies have shown arrogance by not offering a single apology. This reflects their shamelessness, and the people of Bihar will ensure they pay a price for this disrespect.”
In a post on X, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed national outrage, saying, “The offensive remark against the Prime Minister’s late mother has wounded the nation’s soul. This is an insult not just to one mother but to every mother in India. The women’s wing of the NDA has taken to the streets in protest, and today, the entire country stands united to defend the dignity of mothers and respect for women.”

The controversy stems from a viral video allegedly showing a person using abusive language at a small gathering on the outskirts of Darbhanga, organised by a local Congress leader. The organiser claimed no senior Congress functionary was present during the incident. The accused, a 25-year-old from Darbhanga, has been arrested.
However, tensions remain high, with BJP workers clashing with Congress leaders at the opposition’s state headquarters in Patna, leading to physical altercations.
