A fierce gunbattle erupted between security forces and terrorists in the Dool area of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, early Sunday morning, following intelligence reports of terrorist activity. The Indian Army’s White Knight Corps stated that its troops, conducting a targeted operation around 2 a.m., engaged two suspected Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists who opened fire, triggering an intense exchange. The operation remains active, with the area tightly cordoned off.
This clash follows a deadly encounter in Kulgam’s Akhal forests on August 9, where two soldiers, Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh, lost their lives during “Operation Akhal,” now in its tenth day and among the region’s longest anti-terror missions. Security forces, including Para Commandos, Rashtriya Rifles, and Jammu and Kashmir Police, are deploying drones and thermal imaging for precision.
The Pir Panjal region, including Kishtwar, has seen a spike in militancy, with four major operations in two weeks, including the elimination of three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in Dachigam and two in Poonch. The resurgence of attacks in areas once considered stable underscores the growing challenge of terrorism.
