A 25-year-old former software engineer was found dead in a temple pond in Telangana’s Medipally town after police investigations revealed she had left her home during the night amid what officials described as a severe mental health crisis. The woman, identified as Tejaswini, was discovered after CCTV footage from the area showed her moving through the streets before reaching the pond in the early hours of Friday.
According to Medipally police, Tejaswini had previously worked at an IT company in Bengaluru but had resigned from her job around six months ago. She had been living in Peerzadiguda with her mother for nearly two months after relocating from Vizianagaram district. Police said preliminary findings suggest she had been experiencing significant emotional distress and had a history of symptoms including panic episodes and severe nightmares.
Investigators said Tejaswini and her mother went to sleep after dinner, but at around 2:30 am she allegedly left the house after locking her mother’s room from outside. CCTV footage reviewed by police reportedly showed her moving through the neighbourhood before stopping at a nearby Beerappa temple. Officials said she spent some time there before heading towards the temple pond and entering the water.

The following morning, Tejaswini’s mother realised she had been locked inside the room and raised an alarm, following which neighbours helped her come out. A search operation was launched in the surrounding area, and her body was later found floating in the pond. Teams from Medipally police, HYDRAA, and the Disaster Response Force recovered the body and sent it to Gandhi Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police said there were no visible indications of outside involvement based on the available CCTV footage and that the sequence of events appeared to point towards a possible suicide linked to a mental health crisis. However, officials said they are awaiting the final post-mortem report before reaching any final conclusion. A case has been registered based on the complaint filed by her mother, and investigators are examining additional evidence to complete the inquiry.
