Former CBI director M Nageswara Rao has taken charge as the national president of the Sarvajan Sanatan Party (SSP), marking his entry into active politics after nearly four decades of service in security, law and order, and administration. Rao announced his new role while addressing a press conference in Varanasi on Saturday, after being elected to the position by the party's office-bearers.
Rao said his move into politics represented a new responsibility in his public life and said he intended to use his experience in administration and public service for what he described as the larger interests of the nation and society. His appointment places the former senior police and investigative official in a formal political role after a career spanning several areas of government and public administration.
Speaking about his political vision, Rao said the phrase “Satya Sanatan, Nitya Nutan” was not merely a slogan but the foundation of his outlook. He said Sanatan should not be understood only as a form of worship, describing it instead as a worldview connected with values including truth, righteousness or Dharma, duty, justice, compassion and public welfare.

Rao also spoke about the relationship between India's development and its cultural heritage, calling for a modern India while retaining links with its roots. He said development should not come at the cost of the country's civilizational traditions and argued that future generations should understand and value the heritage they have inherited.
The former CBI director's new political role follows his long career in public service, during which he worked in security, law and order and administration for nearly four decades. His transition into active politics therefore marks a change from his previous responsibilities in government service to direct participation in the political sphere through the SSP.
Rao made the announcement in Varanasi on Saturday as he formally took charge of the party's national leadership. His stated focus includes applying his administrative experience to public and national interests while promoting the values he outlined in his address. Further political activities and the party's plans under his leadership were not detailed in the information available.
