On a bustling Saturday in Bengaluru, chaos erupted near Chinnaswamy Stadium when a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus plowed into nine vehicles, leaving a trail of destruction. The shocking incident, captured on CCTV, was triggered by the driver suffering a sudden seizure, causing him to lose control and inadvertently slam the accelerator.
The bus, en route from Kempegowda International Airport to Banashankari, carried approximately 15 passengers when the accident occurred. Driven by 35-year-old Lokesh Kumar, the vehicle veered wildly, colliding with three autorickshaws, three cars, and several two-wheelers before grinding to a halt. The CCTV footage reveals the driver convulsing moments before the crash, with the conductor desperately attempting to regain control of the runaway bus but failing to prevent the collisions.
Among the victims were an autorickshaw driver and a woman passenger in an SUV, both of whom sustained injuries. The autorickshaw driver was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the woman received medical attention for minor injuries. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, but the incident left onlookers and passengers shaken.

Authorities are investigating the incident, with initial reports pointing to the driver’s medical emergency as the primary cause. The BMTC has promised a thorough review of the driver’s health records and is cooperating with local police to ensure a comprehensive investigation. Witnesses described a scene of pandemonium, with vehicles scattered and debris littering the road as bystanders rushed to assist the injured.
This alarming event has raised questions about driver safety protocols and the need for regular health screenings for public transport operators in Bengaluru. As the city grapples with the aftermath, residents are calling for stricter measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
