The family of Prashant Satpathy, a 41-year-old accountant killed in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, has condemned an unauthorized crowdfunding campaign falsely claiming to support his wife, Priya Darshani Achariya, and their nine-year-old son.
The campaign, detected on social media platforms on Saturday, prompted the family to lodge a complaint with Balasore’s Cyber Crime and Economic Offence Police Station, alleging fraudulent collection of funds without their consent.
“We seek blessings, not money,” Priya told reporters, urging the public to halt contributions and questioning the campaign’s intent. She suggested any collected funds be donated to charitable trusts, expressing faith in government support. Prashant, an employee at the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET) in Balasore, was among 26 victims of the attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baisaran meadow.

His brother, Jayant, said the family contacted a woman linked to the fundraiser, who apologized for acting without permission. The campaign, which raised approximately ₹18,000 from five to six donors, has deeply hurt the family, Jayant added.
Balasore Cyber Police have launched an investigation, tracing the individuals involved. The controversy follows Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s announcement of ₹20 lakh ex gratia, a government job for Priya, and full educational support for the couple’s son, Tanuj.
The family’s stance reflects their resolve to honor Prashant’s memory with dignity, while authorities probe the misuse of his name amid widespread grief over the attack.
