Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited the iconic Chola-era Lord Brihadeeswara temple in Tamil Nadu, offering prayers in a deeply spiritual ceremony at one of India’s most revered heritage sites.
Draped in traditional attire — veshti, white shirt, and angavasthram — the Prime Minister walked through the inner corridors of the grand temple, participating in rituals amid resonant chants of Vedic hymns and Saivite Thirumurai.
Carrying a ‘kalasam’ filled with sacred Ganga water, PM Modi performed the deeparathanai ritual at the temple, which stands as a masterpiece of ancient Tamil architecture and is part of the UNESCO-recognised Great Living Chola Temples.
