The Supreme Court on Monday, January 12, 2026, expressed strong disapproval and disgust over the alleged misconduct of a Madhya Pradesh civil judge, who was accused of urinating inside a train compartment during a journey in the presence of other passengers, including a woman.
A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta sharply criticized the conduct, describing it as “disgusting” and “shocking” for a judicial officer. The court remarked, “Disgusting conduct of a judicial officer. You have managed to turn all the witnesses hostile. This is a shocking case. You urinated in the compartment. There was a lady.”
The top court also questioned the Madhya Pradesh High Court's decision to partly allow the judge's plea and interfere with the disciplinary action that had led to his termination from service in May 2025. The bench expressed astonishment at how the High Court had intervened in the matter, especially given the gravity of the allegations.

The case stems from an incident during a train journey where the judicial officer was accused of urinating in the compartment, an act deemed highly unbecoming of someone holding a judicial position. Following a departmental inquiry, the officer was dismissed from service. He subsequently challenged the termination before the High Court, which granted him partial relief.
During the Supreme Court hearing, the bench highlighted that all witnesses in the inquiry had turned hostile, further underscoring the seriousness of the matter and the apparent attempts to influence the proceedings.
The Supreme Court's strong observations reinforce the expectation of exemplary conduct from members of the judiciary, who are held to the highest standards of integrity and propriety. The matter is expected to be heard further, with the top court likely to examine the High Court's interference and the overall disciplinary process in greater detail.
