A sudden spell of rain on Friday morning plunged Delhi into chaos, with commuters battling severe traffic snarls and waterlogging across major roads in the national capital. Key stretches, including the Delhi-Noida-Direct (DND) flyway, Mathura Road, Vikas Marg, ITO, ISBT, Geeta Colony, Sarai Kale Khan, Pragati Maidan, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Akshardham, Rohtak Road, Peeragarhi Road, Delhi-Jaipur Highway, Madhuban Chowk, MB Road, MG Road, Dhaula Kuan, and Rajaram Kohli Marg, saw vehicles crawling or at a standstill, severely disrupting morning commutes.
The worst-hit areas included the Badarpur-to-Ashram stretch, where long queues of vehicles, including office-goers and school buses, faced significant delays. Social media platforms were flooded with commuter frustrations. “What’s with the snail-paced traffic on NH8 to Delhi? Even ambulances can’t move!” one user posted on X. Another commuter lamented, “Stuck for over an hour between Badarpur flyover and Sarita Vihar metro station—just four kilometers in 90 minutes!”
Waterlogging exacerbated the crisis, with visuals shared online showing vehicles wading through knee-deep water at AIIMS Chowk, Panchkuian Marg, Shastri Bhawan, RK Puram, Moti Bagh, Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road, Nehru Place, East of Kailash, and Kidwai Nagar. A motorist reported traffic grinding to a halt at AIIMS Chowk due to severe flooding, stranding commuters for prolonged periods.

The Delhi Traffic Police deployed teams across multiple locations to manage congestion and assist commuters. “Rain and waterlogging in some areas slowed traffic movement, but our personnel are working to streamline the situation,” a police officer stated. Despite these efforts, the sudden downpour overwhelmed infrastructure, leaving commuters stranded and highlighting the city’s persistent challenges with monsoon-related disruptions.
