In a vibrant display of patriotism ahead of Independence Day, Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood led a grand 'Tiranga Yatra' at Dabri Chowk in Janakpuri on Wednesday. The event, which drew around 8,000 participants, including local residents, schoolchildren, and representatives from social, political, and religious groups, aimed to inspire national pride and promote the use of indigenous products over Chinese manjha for kite flying.
Joined by West Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Sood emphasized that Independence Day celebrations should extend beyond traditional flag hoisting and kite flying. He urged citizens to embrace domestically made manjha and tricolour kites, describing the choice as a meaningful step toward supporting India’s economy. Reflecting on his childhood memories of the occasion, Sood called on the youth to adopt values of civic responsibility, cleanliness, and respect for public property as acts of patriotism. “Not all of us have to go to the border, but we can serve the nation by keeping our surroundings clean and following rules,” he stated.
The minister also paid tribute to the martyrs of the Kargil War, highlighting their sacrifices as an inspiration for future generations. Quoting Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s iconic slogan, “You give me blood and I will give you freedom,” Sood redefined modern patriotism as dedication and societal contribution rather than sacrifice.

The Tiranga Yatra not only celebrated India’s independence but also reinforced the importance of collective responsibility and national pride in building a stronger, self-reliant nation.
