The Delhi Police conducted a meticulously planned 'dummy bomb' detection and disposal exercise at the bustling National Market in Paschim Vihar West, as part of heightened security measures ahead of Independence Day.
The drill began when the Paschim Vihar West control room received a simulated report of an explosive-like object in the market, prompting an immediate response. A police team swiftly cordoned off the area, initiating a systematic search to locate the suspicious object.
During the operation, a head constable identified the object, which was later confirmed to be a dummy device strategically placed for the exercise. The drill aimed to test the real-time preparedness of local police and response teams, evaluating operational readiness, coordination, and response time in a high-stakes scenario. The choice of National Market, a high-footfall location, ensured the exercise mirrored real-world conditions, enhancing its effectiveness in preparing for potential threats.
The operation temporarily restricted market-goers from entering the area, but normalcy was restored promptly after the device was secured. With security intensified across Delhi’s Outer District ahead of August 15 celebrations, such drills underscore the police’s commitment to public safety.
The exercise successfully demonstrated the force’s ability to respond efficiently to potential bomb threats, bolstering confidence as the capital prepares for national festivities.
