The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced an extension of last train timings across all metro lines on May 17 in view of the IPL 2026 match between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals scheduled at Arun Jaitley Stadium. The decision has been taken to facilitate smooth and convenient travel for the large number of spectators expected to attend the high-profile fixture. The move is aimed at ensuring that fans can return home safely and comfortably after the conclusion of the match without facing late-night transport constraints across the city and the wider Delhi-NCR region.
With thousands of cricket fans anticipated to gather at the centrally located stadium, DMRC stated that the extended services are intended to manage the heavy post-match passenger rush that typically builds up around major sporting events. The Delhi Metro system, which serves as one of the primary modes of public transport in the capital, often experiences significant demand during IPL fixtures due to congestion on surrounding roads and limited parking availability near the venue. The revised schedule is therefore expected to ease pressure on road traffic while offering a reliable alternative for spectators travelling to different parts of the city and adjoining areas.
According to the DMRC, the extension will apply across all major metro corridors, including the Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Violet, Pink, Magenta, Grey, and Airport Express lines. These services will continue operating beyond their usual closing hours on the night of the match. The corporation has planned staggered operations across different routes to ensure connectivity across key residential, commercial, and transit hubs in the National Capital Region, enabling dispersal of crowds after the event concludes.

As part of the revised arrangements, several specific sections will see notably extended operations. The Samaypur Badli to Millennium City Centre Gurugram corridor will run till 12:20 AM, while the Kashmere Gate to Raja Nahar Singh route will operate till 12:25 AM. On another stretch, services between Majlis Park and Deepali Chowk will continue until approximately 2:20 AM. The Airport Express Line, which connects New Delhi Railway Station with Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector-25, will also have additional late-night services to accommodate airport-bound passengers and long-distance travellers returning after the match.
DMRC officials have urged commuters to remain attentive to station announcements and plan their return journeys in advance to avoid last-minute delays or confusion. The metro authority noted that similar extended service arrangements have been implemented during previous IPL matches in the season, reflecting a growing dependence on public transport for managing large-scale sporting crowds in the capital. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce congestion in and around the stadium area while ensuring safe and efficient dispersal of spectators after the match concludes.
