A 21-year-old man was apprehended in Delhi’s Palam area for allegedly using artificial intelligence tools to transform a college student’s photos into explicit images and sharing them on fake social media profiles created in her name, police reported on Wednesday.
The arrest followed a complaint filed on June 16 by the victim, who stated that the accused was creating fake social media accounts daily, using her images alongside defamatory and derogatory captions. “The suspect impersonated the victim by taking her publicly available profile photo and altering it into explicit content using AI,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel. The accused also sent follow requests to the victim and her social media contacts from these accounts to defame and humiliate her.
The man faces charges under sections 78 (stalking) and 79 (acts intended to insult a woman’s modesty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Southwest Cyber Police Station. After multiple raids and sustained surveillance, authorities nabbed him in Palam Village. “During interrogation, he confessed to the crime,” Goel added.
