The Delhi Government on Tuesday issued a formal directive instructing bureaucrats to prioritise the proceedings of the newly constituted House Committees of the Eighth Legislative Assembly. The move aims to ensure timely and effective legislative oversight and improve coordination between the executive and legislative branches.
A circular issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) mandates that all Administrative Secretaries personally attend House Committee sittings and guarantee full cooperation from their departments through the submission of documents, reports, and other materials requested by the committees.
The circular further stipulates that in case an Administrative Secretary is unable to attend, a senior officer, fully briefed on the subject, must be deputed with prior approval. This measure is intended to prevent delays in governance matters and maintain seamless conduct of legislative proceedings.

Joint Secretary of GAD, Pradeep Tayal, highlighted that committees may require the presence of senior officers for deliberations, presentations, or furnishing of information on matters under consideration. The directive reinforces accountability and ensures executive participation in legislative scrutiny.
The order follows recent developments in the Atishi video controversy, where the Committee of Privileges had directed senior officials from Punjab, including the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Director General of Police, and the Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, to submit written explanations and documents by February 12, 2026.
Officials said the directive is part of a broader push to strengthen legislative oversight and expedite responses to committee queries, ensuring that issues relating to governance and administration are addressed efficiently and transparently.
