Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta initiated a transformative pilot project in her Shalimar Bagh constituency, moving overhead power cables underground at BH Block, Janta Flats Colony.
With an ₹8 crore budget, the project, set to finish in three months, aims to untangle the colony’s dense web of wires, enhancing its aesthetic and ensuring reliable electricity in all weather conditions. Power Minister Ashish Sood echoed Gupta’s vision, emphasizing safety and uninterrupted supply.
Gupta, also the finance minister, allocated ₹100 crore in the 2025-26 budget to expand this initiative citywide. Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited’s CEO, D Basak, confirmed that the pilot will cover 10 kilometers of underground lines.
