Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday launched the HPV vaccination drive in the national capital at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, aiming to vaccinate 1.6 lakh girls over the next three months. The event was attended by BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, and MLA Sanjay Goyal.
Addressing the media, CM Gupta said the initiative is crucial as thousands of women die each year from cervical cancer, which can largely be prevented if the HPV vaccine is administered during adolescence. “When it came to light that this disease can be completely prevented through HPV vaccination, it became our responsibility to act,” she said.
She also acknowledged the nationwide campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Ajmer, highlighting that Delhi’s effort aligns with the broader mission to eradicate cervical cancer across India. Over the coming three months, all eligible girls in Delhi will be offered the vaccine, and officials pledged that no one will be left out. MP Manoj Tiwari praised the Delhi government’s focus on strengthening healthcare and noted the inauguration of five other healthcare-related projects during the event.
