On Tuesday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the families of two young boys, Aniket (9) and Krishan Kumar (13), who tragically drowned in the Munak canal in her Shalimar Bagh assembly constituency. During the meeting, Gupta expressed condolences and announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh to each family as immediate financial assistance. The Delhi government has initiated the process to release these funds promptly, demonstrating support for the affected kin who reside in slums near the Ayurvedic Hospital.
In addition to the compensation, Gupta instructed officials to implement strict safety measures around canals and other vulnerable areas to prevent future accidents. The statement from her office highlighted ongoing efforts to secure the Munak canal's surroundings, including potential barriers and monitoring, as a proactive step toward public safety in Delhi.
