A 22-year-old motorcyclist, Bobby, was killed in a collision with a JCB machine near Shadipur Metro Station in Ranjit Nagar, central Delhi, at 5:58 am on Thursday, police reported. The JCB, bearing a Haryana registration number, struck Bobby’s sports bike, leading to his death, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan.
Police arrived at the scene to find the JCB, the damaged bike, and blood on the road. Bobby was rushed to Acharya Bhikshu Hospital in Moti Nagar but was declared dead on arrival. An eyewitness reported that Bobby attempted to overtake the JCB on the right when the operator made a sudden, improper right turn, trapping him between the vehicle and a roadside divider. “The driver stopped briefly, saw Bobby bleeding profusely from his head, and fled,” the witness stated.
A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with the crime team investigating the site. Efforts are underway to apprehend the absconding JCB driver. The incident, one of several fatal road accidents in Delhi this year, has sparked outrage on X, with users demanding stricter enforcement against heavy machinery on city roads and better traffic monitoring. Delhi’s road death toll, averaging four daily in early 2025, underscores ongoing safety challenges.
