BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal, who represents Delhi’s Chandni Chowk constituency, said Union Home Minister Amit Shah is personally monitoring the investigation into Monday’s deadly blast that killed nine people near the Red Fort metro station. The explosion, which occurred around 6.52 pm near Gate No. 1, sent shockwaves through one of the capital’s busiest commercial and tourist zones, prompting the invocation of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Speaking to NDTV, Khandelwal called the blast a “heinous act” and assured citizens that those behind it would face the strictest punishment under law. “Union Home Minister Amit Shah is personally monitoring every development. All security agencies, including Delhi Police, are on high alert and investigating the cause. No one responsible will be spared,” he stated. The MP said the government would announce compensation once the final investigation report is completed.
Khandelwal offered condolences to the victims’ families and urged Delhi residents to remain calm. “I deeply mourn the loss of lives and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. I appeal to citizens not to believe or spread rumours,” he added, promising that the government is “doing everything possible” for the victims and the affected families.

Forensic teams from the Delhi Police, along with central agencies such as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Intelligence Bureau, have cordoned off the blast site and are analysing CCTV footage. Investigators are examining chemical residue and fragments collected from the scene to determine the nature of the explosives used. Security in and around central Delhi has been ramped up, with additional personnel deployed near key installations.
The blast’s proximity to Chandni Chowk and other commercial hubs has alarmed local traders. Khandelwal, who also heads multiple trade associations, confirmed that only Lajpat Rai Market has been temporarily closed for investigation. “Traders understand this is a matter of national security. They are cooperating fully,” he said. The MP also dismissed speculation about political motives, asserting that “this is a national security issue, not a political one.”
