India’s defence exports reached a record high of nearly ₹40,000 crore in the fiscal year 2025-26, according to official government data, marking a significant milestone in the country’s defence manufacturing sector. The increase reflects India’s growing capabilities in indigenous production and its expanding presence in the global defence market.
Officials from the Ministry of Defence highlighted that this surge in exports was driven by both government-to-government deals and private sector participation. Key defence products exported include fighter aircraft components, naval vessels, missile systems, and advanced electronic warfare equipment.
Industry experts noted that the rise in defence exports is part of the government’s broader strategy under the “Make in India” initiative, which aims to reduce import dependence and promote domestic manufacturing. The growth also aligns with India’s focus on strengthening strategic partnerships with countries in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

Several private and public sector companies contributed to the record export figures, leveraging advanced technology and collaborations with foreign defence firms. The government has also simplified licensing procedures and offered incentives to encourage domestic firms to expand their global footprint.
Analysts observed that the increased defence exports not only boost revenue but also enhance India’s geopolitical influence by positioning it as a reliable supplier of defence equipment to friendly nations. The move is expected to generate employment, strengthen the industrial ecosystem, and foster innovation in defence technologies.
Looking ahead, officials aim to further increase defence exports through continued investment in research and development, strategic partnerships, and by promoting newer, high-tech products. The record achievement in FY26 underscores India’s emergence as a key player in the international defence market.
