The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Communist Party of India (Marxist) has called for a revival of the Opposition INDIA bloc while sharply criticising the approach of the Indian National Congress, alleging that its stance is undermining efforts to build a united front against the Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliance.
The remarks were made in a statement issued after the CPI(M) Central Committee meeting held in New Delhi from May 22 to 24, where the party reviewed recent Assembly election results and the political situation. The CPI(M) said that strengthening unity among “Left, progressive, secular and democratic forces” was essential to counter what it described as the growing influence of right-wing forces in the country.
However, the party also expressed dissatisfaction with the Congress, saying its attitude towards other opposition parties was “not helpful” in building cohesion within the INDIA bloc. The CPI(M) alleged that recent actions and statements by the Congress had contributed to tensions within the broader Opposition alliance at a critical political juncture.

The CPI(M) also strongly rejected allegations made during the Kerala Assembly election campaign that it had an understanding with the BJP, calling such claims “malicious and baseless.” The party argued that such accusations weakened Opposition unity at a time when coordinated political strategy was needed.
According to the Central Committee’s assessment, the recent Assembly election results reflected both setbacks and emerging challenges for the Opposition. The party noted concerns over the consolidation of right-wing forces and emphasised the need for sustained political mobilisation on issues such as unemployment, inflation, and democratic rights.
The statement further indicated that the CPI(M) would intensify its political campaigns in the coming months, focusing on mass mobilisation and issue-based opposition to government policies. It also suggested that the party remains committed to the idea of a broader Opposition alliance, but stressed that its effectiveness would depend on greater coordination and mutual trust among its constituent parties.
