The Congress on Thursday announced its list of candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha biennial elections and bypolls, with senior party leader Meenakshi Natarajan being nominated from Madhya Pradesh. The announcement marks a significant political development for the party in the state and signals the leadership's confidence in Natarajan's experience, organisational abilities, and long-standing commitment to the Congress. The candidate list was approved by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and released by AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal.
Natarajan's nomination is being viewed as a notable return to the national political arena. A former Member of Parliament and a prominent Congress leader, she has been associated with the party's grassroots organisation for decades. Known for her close engagement with party workers and ideological commitment, she has played several important roles within the Congress and is regarded as a leader with strong organisational credentials. Her elevation to the Rajya Sabha race reflects the party's effort to strengthen its parliamentary presence with experienced leaders.
The Congress list also includes several prominent names from different states. From Karnataka, the party has nominated Pawan Khera and Mansoor Ali Khan, both known for their active roles in political communication and public outreach. Rajasthan will be represented by Neeraj Dangi, while Tamil Nadu has been allotted to Praveen Chakravarty, who is widely recognised for his policy and strategic contributions to the party. In Jharkhand, Pranav Jha has been selected as the party's candidate.

Another significant feature of the announcement is the inclusion of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge among the Rajya Sabha candidates. His candidature underscores his continuing role in national politics and parliamentary affairs while leading the party at a crucial time. Political observers view the move as an indication of the Congress leadership's intent to maintain a strong and experienced presence in the Upper House as national political debates continue to intensify.
The latest nominations reflect the Congress' broader strategy of balancing experienced leaders with individuals who bring fresh energy and organisational strength. By fielding leaders from diverse backgrounds and regions, the party aims to reinforce its influence in Parliament and strengthen its representation across states. The selection process appears focused on leaders who possess both political experience and strong connections with grassroots workers.
With the Rajya Sabha elections approaching, the announcement has set the stage for important political contests across several states. Meenakshi Natarajan's nomination from Madhya Pradesh stands out as one of the key decisions in the list, symbolising both continuity and renewal within the Congress. The party will now look to convert these nominations into electoral success and enhance its presence in the Upper House of Parliament.
