The Border Security Force (BSF) has vehemently rejected claims circulated in Bangladeshi media that two primary suspects in the assassination of Inqilab Moncho leader Sharif Osman Hadi crossed into India through the Meghalaya sector. Inspector General OP Upadhyay, commanding the Meghalaya Frontier, declared the reports "completely false, fabricated, and misleading," asserting that no evidence exists to substantiate any such border incursion.
Upadhyay pointed to glaring inconsistencies within Bangladeshi sources, noting that only days earlier, an Inspector General-rank officer denied any proof of the suspects' escape, only for a Deputy Inspector General to later issue contradictory statements. He confirmed that Meghalaya Police have also refuted allegations of apprehending the individuals, and the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB)—described as a highly professional outfit—has reported no related incidents.
The BSF official underscored the practical implausibility of the scenario, explaining that the purported entry point lies approximately 300 kilometres from Dhaka in a region saturated with CCTV surveillance, checkpoints, and rigorous monitoring. Such undetected movement across a heavily guarded international border, he argued, defies logistical reality and further exposes the claims as baseless fabrications.

Hadi's murder has triggered sustained political turmoil in Bangladesh, with Inqilab Moncho orchestrating widespread protests, highway blockades, and shutdowns in major cities, including a prominent demonstration at Dhaka's Shahbagh intersection on Sunday. Demands for swift justice continue amid escalating unrest.
The incident has broader ramifications, including reported violence against minority communities, prompting India to express grave concern over targeted attacks on Hindus. New Delhi has urged protection for minorities and advocated for free, fair elections in 2026, while the unsubstantiated border claims risk further straining bilateral relations during Bangladesh's volatile post-Hasina transition.
