Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced ambitious plans to develop Anjanadri Hill in Koppal district, revered as the birthplace of Lord Hanuman, to enhance its mythological, spiritual, and tourism appeal. The announcement was made during a high-level meeting with ministers and officials to discuss infrastructure upgrades for the sacred site.
Anjanadri Hill, named after Hanuman’s mother, Anjana, and associated with the mythological Kishkinda, attracts lakhs of devotees during Hanuman Jayanti and tourists from across India, particularly North India. The CM emphasized the need for facilities to accommodate the growing influx of visitors. “Dormitory facilities for pilgrims, stairs for senior devotees to climb the hill, a circumambulation route, a community hall, and other tourist amenities must be developed,” Siddaramaiah stated, as per an official release.
The state government has sanctioned ₹200 crore for the project’s first and second phases, with ₹10 crore already released. Additional funds are required from the Finance Department to complete the remaining allocation. To address land constraints, the acquisition of 101.30 acres of private land has been proposed, including 77.28 acres previously identified, pending financial approval.

Given that most planned developments fall under the forest department’s jurisdiction, Siddaramaiah directed officials to secure the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) to proceed. The 2024-25 state budget also includes plans for ropeways at 11 tourist destinations, including Anjanadri Hill, to be developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, enhancing accessibility to the hill’s summit.
Located across the Tungabhadra River, Anjanadri Hill is celebrated for its panoramic landscapes, scenic sunset views, and the serene flow of the river amidst rocky terrain. The development initiatives aim to elevate the site as a premier spiritual and tourism destination, preserving its cultural significance while improving visitor experience.
