Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art multi-level bus depot in Hari Nagar, West Delhi, on Monday, describing it as a transformative step for the capital’s public transport system. The ceremony, held during the 'Seva Pakhwada' celebrations marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, underscores Delhi’s push toward sustainable urban mobility.

Gupta highlighted the depot’s advanced features, noting its self-sustaining design that will cover operational costs without burdening government finances. The facility will include parking and charging stations for over 400 electric buses, aligning with Delhi’s green transport initiatives.

Additionally, the depot will house a commercial complex and a mall, enhancing its economic viability. Essential amenities such as cleaning facilities, offices, and dormitories will also be provided for employees and officers, ensuring operational efficiency and staff welfare.

The Chief Minister emphasized Delhi’s ongoing transition to electric buses, with 3,000 currently operational and plans to double that number to 6,000 by the end of 2026. This expansion aims to reduce air pollution and improve public transport accessibility in the capital, which faces chronic traffic and environmental challenges. The Hari Nagar depot, equipped with cutting-edge technology, is expected to streamline bus operations and support the city’s growing fleet.
