Ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Elections, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday strongly declared that Mumbai is, was, and will always remain an integral part of Maharashtra. Dismissing claims that the city could be separated from the state, he said such narratives resurface only during election seasons and lack any factual basis.
Responding to a motion in the state Assembly, Fadnavis said Maharashtra would continue to move forward “at full speed,” guided by the principles of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the Constitution framed by Dr B.R. Ambedkar. He announced that Maharashtra aims to become India’s first trillion-dollar state economy by 2030 and achieve the goal of Viksit Maharashtra by 2047.
Refuting opposition allegations of financial mismanagement, the Chief Minister said Maharashtra remains well within all key economic parameters. He highlighted that the state’s public debt and fiscal deficit are below prescribed limits, asserting that the government has adhered strictly to fiscal discipline while maintaining steady economic growth.

Fadnavis also highlighted Maharashtra’s leadership in foreign direct investment, renewable energy expansion, and infrastructure development. He said the state attracts nearly one-third of India’s total FDI and is aggressively expanding solar and pumped storage power capacity, with a target of sourcing 52 per cent of its energy from renewables by 2030.
On regional development, the Chief Minister said areas such as Marathwada, Vidarbha, Sambhajinagar, and Gadchiroli are emerging as new industrial hubs, including electric vehicle manufacturing and mining-based industries. He added that major irrigation and river-linking projects would ensure long-term water security and make drought a thing of the past.
Fadnavis reaffirmed the government’s commitment to major infrastructure projects, including the Nagpur–Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway, despite opposition, calling it a game-changer for the state. He also announced major expansions in Mumbai’s metro network and reiterated that promises such as crop loan waivers would be implemented within the announced timeline, underscoring the government’s focus on inclusive and sustained growth.
