Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday inaugurated the Dharavi Experience Centre near the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai, offering residents and other visitors physical and digital previews of the proposed Dharavi redevelopment project. The centre, located in PMGP Colony’s H Block, presents models and visual material covering proposed homes, industrial spaces, roads, open areas and social infrastructure. The inauguration took place on October 2.
Fadnavis said the centre was intended to provide residents with a clearer understanding of how the redevelopment would affect their homes, neighbourhoods and workplaces. He said providing information in one place could help address rumours, misconceptions and incomplete information surrounding the project. The centre uses audio-visual and digital technology to present Dharavi’s existing conditions alongside the proposed redevelopment plans.
After inspecting the centre, Fadnavis described Dharavi as an important economic centre, pointing to activities including pottery in Kumbharwada, leather work, food processing, plastic recycling and other micro, small and medium enterprises. He said the redevelopment plan seeks to provide better-planned workspaces while retaining Dharavi’s social, cultural and economic character. His remarks framed the project as part of wider urban transformation in Mumbai and across the country.

The Chief Minister said the centre would provide information about the proposed homes, roads, open spaces, social amenities and employment opportunities associated with the redevelopment. He said the facility could also be useful to stakeholders and urban-planning researchers seeking to understand the proposed changes. The Maharashtra government's Dharavi Redevelopment Project website describes the project as a scheme for redeveloping the notified Dharavi area through rehabilitation and planned development.
The inauguration was attended by Adani Group Managing Director Pranav Adani, BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide, Mumbai Slum Rehabilitation Authority CEO Mahendra Kalyankar, Dharavi Redevelopment Project CEO and SRA Secretary Vipin Paliwal, and Adani Navbharat Developers CEO Anil Sardana, among others. Adani Navbharat Developers is the special-purpose vehicle involved in executing the redevelopment project, according to the event report.
During the visit, Fadnavis also launched the song Dharavi Ka Kal, sung by Shankar Mahadevan, and released the book Mere Sapno Ki Dharavi. The Experience Centre is intended to give residents and other stakeholders a tangible view of the proposed transformation rather than relying solely on plans and documents. The project remains a major urban redevelopment initiative in Mumbai, with the centre serving as a public-facing platform for information about its proposed future.
