Cloudflare, the global content delivery network (CDN) and cybersecurity provider, announced on January 6, 2026, that it is investigating an increased level of HTTP errors specifically in its Mumbai (BOM) region. The issue, reported around 12:29 UTC (approximately 6:00 PM IST), has triggered connectivity disruptions for users and websites relying on Cloudflare's services in India. According to the company's official status page, the Mumbai datacenter is currently listed as partially re-routed, with traffic being redirected to mitigate impact while engineers work to identify and resolve the root cause. This development has led to widespread reports of website loading issues, 5xx server errors, and intermittent access problems across various online platforms in the country.
The incident follows a pattern of regional challenges for Cloudflare in India, including a resolved case of increased 5xx errors in the India region using Cloudflare Tunnels earlier in the month, as well as network degradation in Mumbai reported in December 2025. While global Cloudflare services remain largely operational, with no widespread outages affecting other regions, the Mumbai-specific problem has caused noticeable ripple effects for Indian internet users. Many websites protected by Cloudflare—ranging from e-commerce sites to media portals and APIs—experienced degraded performance or temporary unavailability, prompting users to turn to alternatives or wait for resolution.
Cloudflare has not yet disclosed the exact cause of the elevated HTTP errors, but such issues can stem from configuration anomalies, traffic surges, hardware problems in the data center, or network routing glitches. The company emphasized that it is actively monitoring the situation and providing updates via its status dashboard. Users affected by the disruptions are advised to check for real-time progress, as the partial re-routing aims to minimize downtime. In the meantime, some services may continue to show intermittent errors until full stabilization.

This localized event highlights the critical role Cloudflare plays in India's digital ecosystem, where its edge network handles significant web traffic. Previous global outages in 2025, such as the major incident on November 18 that impacted platforms like X and ChatGPT, underscore the company's vulnerability to cascading failures, though the current issue appears contained to the Mumbai area. Cloudflare has committed to providing a detailed post-incident analysis once resolved, as is standard practice for maintaining transparency with customers and the internet community.
