The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday said no protester would be left without support after holding late-night discussions with government representatives over concerns regarding police action against demonstrators. The statement came after the party claimed it had received fresh assurances that steps would be taken to protect protesters and withdraw legal cases filed against them in several states. CJP leaders said the talks lasted for nearly three hours and focused on implementing commitments made during earlier negotiations.

In a post shared on X after the meeting, CJP Chief Spokesperson Saurav Das said government representatives had provided copies of notifications issued by the Bihar and Assam governments regarding the withdrawal of FIRs, the release of detained protesters and assurances against future legal action. According to Das, the Centre also reiterated its commitment to facilitating similar notifications from the Union government and other BJP/NDA-ruled states. He expressed hope that the agreed language would be reflected in future orders, stating that the party would continue to stand with all protesters.

In a video message released after the discussions, Das said CJP leaders had conveyed concerns that previous assurances might not be implemented on the ground. He said officials responded by presenting the Bihar Home Department's notification, which reportedly stated that FIRs against protesters would be withdrawn and that no future action would be taken against them. Discussions also included the possibility of similar measures being adopted by other states to ensure protesters do not face legal consequences for participating in demonstrations.

Das further claimed that the government had assured the party that additional notifications addressing its concerns would be issued by the following day. He said CJP would continue monitoring the implementation of these commitments and press authorities to ensure no protester faces legal action in connection with the demonstrations. According to the party, protecting participants from future police action remains one of its key priorities following the conclusion of its protest campaign.

The latest developments came hours after CJP warned it could resume protests, alleging a breach of earlier agreements on police action. Party spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka had claimed that students and volunteers were continuing to face arrests, surveillance and harassment in states including Bihar, West Bengal and Delhi despite assurances provided during negotiations. He demanded the immediate withdrawal of all FIRs against protesters, the release of those detained and a commitment that no new cases would be registered, warning that the movement could return to the streets if these conditions were not met.

The CJP's 37-day protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar concluded over the weekend after the resignation of then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, one of the group's principal demands. Later on Monday night, Das also said the party had received assurances that no action would be taken against protesters in Rajasthan and that no FIRs had been registered there. He added that the party would continue engaging with authorities to secure similar protections in other BJP/NDA-ruled states, while the government has not yet publicly responded in detail to all of the claims made by the organisation.
