Chief Justice of India Surya Kant was accorded a traditional welcome in Ladakh on Friday, with top administrative officials and representatives of local tribes participating in the reception. Justice Kant received a ceremonial Guard of Honour and a cultural welcome that highlighted the rich heritage of the region upon his arrival. The visit is part of his official tour to inaugurate key judicial infrastructure and engage with local communities.
During his visit, CJI Kant is scheduled to inaugurate the newly constructed court complex at Melong Thang in Leh and attend a Mega Legal Services Camp at the Sindhu Sanskriti Kendra, aimed at enhancing legal awareness and outreach among residents. He is also set to travel to Kargil to inaugurate the District Court Complex there and visit rural areas across Ladakh to understand local legal and administrative needs.
The reception included a warm welcome by the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, and the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Arun Palli, along with other judges of the High Court. Senior dignitaries from the civil administration, judiciary, Army, and police, including the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, General Officer Commanding 14 Corps, and Registrar General, were also present. CJI Kant interacted with district officials, HC judges, and senior administrative officers of Leh during the ceremony.

As part of his tour, CJI Kant will inaugurate the offices of the Ladakh Legal Services Authority to ensure enhanced access to justice with modern facilities. The Mega Legal Services Camp and Awareness Programme organized during the visit aims to strengthen legal outreach and provide guidance to both civilian and tribal populations. He is also expected to engage with Army personnel to address their legal concerns and reinforce institutional cooperation, continuing the dialogue initiated during the North Zone conference held in July 2025 at SKICC, Srinagar.
The visit underscores a focused effort to strengthen judicial infrastructure in the remote and challenging terrains of Ladakh, ensuring that justice is accessible and effective across all regions. It also reflects the judiciary’s commitment to supporting tribal communities, defence personnel, and local residents through increased legal awareness and modernized facilities.
By combining ceremonial respect, cultural engagement, and strategic judicial initiatives, CJI Surya Kant’s tour of Ladakh marks a significant step toward inclusive and strengthened justice delivery in the region.
