The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday carried out parallel search operations at two Trinamool Congress (TMC) party offices in Kolkata, including one located near the residence of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Kalighat and another at Camac Street linked to party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. The raids are part of an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities involving signatures of Trinamool legislators.
According to officials, the CID team faced initial resistance at the Kalighat office, where entry was reportedly blocked by former TMC Rajya Sabha member Subhasish Chakraborty, who claimed he was temporarily in charge of the premises. The situation escalated before a combined contingent of Kolkata Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel arrived, after which investigators were allowed to enter the premises and proceed with their search operations.
A parallel CID team conducting operations at the Camac Street office of Abhishek Banerjee also faced resistance from staff members at the location, delaying entry briefly. However, personnel from the local Shakespeare Sarani Police Station were soon deployed to the site, following which CID officials were able to enter the office and begin their search proceedings.

The searches are linked to an ongoing case involving alleged discrepancies in signatures of certain Trinamool Congress legislators in connection with a key Assembly resolution concerning positions reserved for the Opposition bench. Officials said Abhishek Banerjee had been summoned for questioning in the matter and was required to appear at the CID office in Bhabani Bhavan in South Kolkata later in the day.
This marks the third consecutive summons issued to Abhishek Banerjee by the CID in the same case. Investigators are examining whether procedural irregularities took place in the submission of documents related to legislative appointments. The case has been under scrutiny for several weeks, with authorities continuing to gather evidence and record statements.
At the time of reporting, both Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee were in New Delhi, where they attended a meeting of the Opposition INDIA bloc. The CID operations in Kolkata are continuing, and further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
