Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Saturday released the 29th instalment of the state government’s Mahtari Vandan Yojana, transferring Rs 626.25 crore directly into the bank accounts of more than 66 lakh women across the state. The initiative aims to strengthen women’s financial independence and support their participation in household and local economic activities.
With the latest transfer, the scheme has reached a major milestone, with a total of Rs 18,805.83 crore provided directly to women beneficiaries through 29 instalments. Congratulating the beneficiaries, Chief Minister Sai described the programme as a symbol of women’s dignity, empowerment and economic self-reliance.
Sai said the monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 has helped many women move beyond basic financial support and explore opportunities for entrepreneurship. He highlighted examples of women using the funds to start small businesses, including tailoring and embroidery work, while others have utilised the assistance for children’s education, healthcare needs and improved nutrition at home.

The Chief Minister said the scheme reflects the state government’s focus on increasing women’s participation in economic activities and supporting women-led development. He added that such initiatives are aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of empowering women by providing them with greater financial security and independence.
Launched on March 1, 2024, the Mahtari Vandan Yojana provides eligible married women aged 21 years and above with monthly financial assistance. Apart from providing direct financial support, officials said the scheme has contributed to efforts aimed at improving household nutrition, reducing anaemia and encouraging women to take greater control of their financial decisions.
The state government is also linking women beneficiaries with initiatives such as Lakhpati Didi to help increase their income opportunities. Sai directed officials to speed up the ongoing e-KYC verification process to ensure that all eligible women receive benefits, with special focus on improving implementation in the Bastar division. Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Rajwade was also present during the programme.
