The South Central Railway (SCR) will launch a new Amrit Bharat Express train connecting Charlapalli near Hyderabad to Kamakhya in Assam on March 13, officials announced on Tuesday. The service aims to enhance connectivity between southern India and the northeastern states, providing a direct rail link that traverses several major cities along its route. Kamakhya, a renowned pilgrimage destination, serves as a gateway to the seven northeastern states of India.
The train, comprising sleeper and general second-class coaches, is designed to offer long-distance travelers a safe, comfortable, and cost-effective journey. Officials emphasized that the service would particularly benefit passengers traveling to the northeastern region, offering an alternative to road and air travel while maintaining affordability. The new Amrit Bharat Express will cover a distance of over 1,500 kilometers in approximately 28 to 30 hours.
Along its route, the train will make stops at key stations including Srikakulam Road, Vizianagaram Junction, Pendurti, Duvvada, Samalkot Junction, Rajahmundry, Tanuku, Bhimavaram Town, Gudivada, Vijayawada, Guntur, and Nalgonda in both directions. The addition of this service is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and promote passenger convenience across multiple states.

The Charlapalli terminal, inaugurated in January 2025 at a cost of Rs 413 crore, serves as Hyderabad’s fifth railway terminus after Nampally, Secunderabad, Kacheguda, and Lingampally. The terminal’s modern infrastructure supports the growing demand for long-distance rail services in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, complementing recent announcements such as a new Amrit Bharat Express linking Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu to Charlapalli.
Developed by Indian Railways, the Amrit Bharat Express trains are part of the organization’s push toward modernization. They are equipped with advanced features including semi-automatic couplers, fire detection systems, sealed gangways, and talk-back units. Notably, new technology has also been introduced in non-AC coaches to enhance passenger safety. Officials highlighted that these trains not only provide a superior travel experience but also contribute to economic growth through tourism, trade, and employment generation.
With the launch of the Charlapalli-Kamakhya Amrit Bharat Express, travelers from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and neighboring states can look forward to a faster, safer, and more comfortable journey to the northeastern region, marking a significant step in India’s expanding railway network.
