Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has called on police personnel to combine advanced technology with humane treatment of victims, stressing that effective crime prevention and law and order are essential for the state’s development. Addressing a gathering on Police Commemoration Day on Wednesday, October 21, Naidu urged the department to expand its use of artificial intelligence, data analytics, drones and CCTV surveillance to prevent offences and strengthen investigations. He said a secure environment was necessary to attract investment, create employment opportunities and improve public well-being. Naidu also emphasised that police stations should be places where people seeking help are treated with respect and dignity.
Earlier, the chief minister paid floral tributes at the Amar Jawan Memorial at the sixth Andhra Pradesh Special Police Battalion in Mangalagiri. He honoured police personnel who had lost their lives in the line of duty, saying their sacrifices should be remembered as a responsibility rather than merely an occasion for sympathy. October 21 is observed as Police Commemoration Day in memory of 10 police personnel killed while resisting an attack by Chinese troops in Ladakh on the same date in 1959. Naidu said police personnel continued to safeguard the public during festivals, VIP visits and other major events, often sacrificing time with their families to fulfil their duties.
Describing policing as a noble profession, Naidu said the khaki uniform represented responsibility and reassurance for citizens. He urged officers to ensure that victims and complainants received respectful treatment while making criminals fear the consequences of their actions. He also praised the Andhra Pradesh Police for handling challenging situations involving violence, extremism and communal clashes. The chief minister congratulated the department’s Counter Intelligence wing for uncovering alleged conspiracies that posed threats to national security, highlighting the importance of intelligence-led operations in maintaining public safety.

Naidu called for wider adoption of artificial intelligence, data analysis and drones to improve crime detection and prevention. He said CCTV footage could help identify offences, while data analysis could assist investigators in establishing facts and understanding criminal activity. He urged the Andhra Pradesh Police to become a national leader in technology-driven policing. The chief minister also warned about cybercrime, noting that fraudsters were using phone calls, suspicious links and messages to steal people’s lifetime savings. He directed the police to take strict action against offenders, including those who committed crimes under the guise of political activity, and against anti-social elements who harassed the public.
The chief minister identified women’s safety, drug abuse, ganja trafficking and road accidents as other areas requiring sustained attention. He congratulated the EAGLE anti-narcotics team for its efforts to combat drug-related offences and called for stronger preventive measures. Naidu said preventing crime was a key measure of effective policing, while solving offences demonstrated the department’s efficiency. He also urged personnel to maintain their physical and mental health, recommending yoga, meditation and other activities to manage work-related stress. His remarks highlighted the need to combine modern investigative capabilities with preventive policing and public engagement.
Naidu said the government’s ultimate objective was to ensure that citizens could sleep peacefully, confident that their lives and property were protected. He reaffirmed support for the families of police personnel who died in service and pledged attention to the welfare of serving officers. During his visit, he inspected exhibitions organised by different police units, including displays of forensic investigation equipment, disaster relief tools and modern weapons used by specialised teams such as OCTOPUS. He also suggested expanding the use of drones for surveillance and other operational purposes and contributed to the Police Martyrs’ Memorial Fund.
