President Droupadi Murmu lauded the Indian armed forces for their exemplary display of unity, strategic foresight, and decisive action during Operation Sindoor, a landmark military campaign that dismantled terrorist infrastructure across the Line of Control (LoC). Speaking at Rashtrapati Bhavan to the faculty and members of the 65th National Defence College course, the President highlighted the operation’s success as a testament to India’s evolving military prowess and commitment to national security.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 in response to a devastating terror attack in Pahalgam. The meticulously planned tri-service operation targeted terrorist strongholds in Pakistan-controlled territories, resulting in four days of intense clashes. By May 10, both sides reached an understanding to halt military actions, but not before India’s armed forces delivered a resounding blow to terror networks. President Murmu praised the operation’s “calibrated, tri-service response,” which showcased seamless synergy among the Army, Navy, and Air Force, effectively neutralizing threats deep within enemy territory.
The President emphasized India’s ongoing transformation of its armed forces into a technologically advanced, combat-ready entity capable of multi-domain operations. She noted that Operation Sindoor exemplified the strength of “jointness,” a principle being furthered through structural reforms like the establishment of the Department of Military Affairs, led by the Chief of Defence Staff. “Efforts are underway to restructure our forces through Integrated Theatre Commands and Integrated Battle Groups,” Murmu said, signaling India’s commitment to modernizing its defense framework to meet evolving global challenges.

Reflecting on India’s philosophical approach to conflict, Murmu invoked the ancient principle of Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam—the world as one family—underscoring the nation’s commitment to universal brotherhood and peace. Drawing from the Mahabharata, she highlighted the Indian tradition of exhausting all avenues for peace before resorting to war. She cited the example of Lord Krishna, who tirelessly pursued diplomacy to avoid conflict but urged Arjuna to fight with resolve when war became inevitable. “This holistic approach prioritizes peace and non-violence but inspires unwavering determination in the face of unavoidable battles,” she said.
In a poignant observation, the President noted the symbolic proximity of the Gandhi Smriti and the National Defence College in New Delhi, describing it as a reflection of India’s integrated value system. “It is as if nature placed these institutions together to remind us of our commitment to peace and strength,” she remarked, emphasizing the balance between India’s pursuit of harmony and its readiness to defend humanity and the nation against threats.
Operation Sindoor’s success has bolstered India’s reputation as a formidable force against terrorism, while the President’s remarks underscore the nation’s resolve to blend tradition with modernity in its defense strategy. As geopolitical tensions and security challenges evolve, India’s armed forces stand poised to protect national interests with precision, unity, and an unwavering commitment to global peace.
