A catastrophic accident on the Jalandhar-Pathankot national highway near Munak village claimed the life of a tractor driver and left five others injured on Monday, September 1, 2025, according to local police. The incident, involving a private bus carrying approximately 15 passengers from Dasuya to Tanda, has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting ongoing road safety concerns in Punjab.
The accident occurred when the bus skidded on the road, colliding with a tractor before striking a car and a scooter. The impact caused the bus to overturn, killing the tractor driver, identified as Bilas, a migrant laborer residing in Munak village, on the spot. “The collision was severe, leading to the immediate death of the tractor driver,” said Inspector Gurwinderjit Singh, Station House Officer at Tanda police station.
Five injured passengers were promptly rushed to the Community Health Centre in Tanda for treatment. Authorities are still assessing the condition of the injured, with no further fatalities reported at this time. The cause of the bus skidding is under investigation, with preliminary reports suggesting possible factors such as excessive speed, road conditions, or driver error.
