In a powerful message to the next generation of defence infrastructure leaders, President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday urged young Military Engineer Services (MES) officers to "build with responsibility," placing sustainability, innovation, and national self-reliance at the core of their mission.
Addressing a group of MES probationers at Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Murmu emphasized that their role goes far beyond construction — it involves shaping the future of India’s defence readiness through eco-conscious and technologically advanced engineering.
She called for the widespread adoption of renewable energy solutions, stressing the urgent need to reduce the carbon footprint of defence infrastructure projects. “Your work must not only serve operational readiness but also contribute to environmental stewardship,” she said.

Highlighting India’s push for self-reliance, the President praised MES for supporting the Make in India initiative by promoting indigenous materials and technologies. She encouraged officers to become pioneers in cutting-edge innovations like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, drone surveillance, and Building Information Modelling (BIM) — tools that can revolutionize defence construction and maintenance.
Murmu also urged officers to lead by example in water conservation, sustainable development, and smart urban management — reinforcing their role as both nation-builders and environmental custodians.
“You have the opportunity to create lasting impact, not just through infrastructure, but through your values and vision,” she said, expressing confidence in their future contributions to a stronger and more resilient India.
