West Bengal Police have apprehended Inzamul Haque, identified as a key planner in the brutal murder of Haragobindo Das (72) and his son Chandan Das (40) in Jaffarabad, Murshidabad, during violent protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
The arrest, made late Wednesday in Suti after extensive raids, brings the total number of arrests in the case to three, according to Additional Director General (South Bengal) Supratim Sarkar.
Haque, a local resident, allegedly orchestrated the crime and tampered with evidence by disabling the power supply and destroying CCTV cameras, Sarkar revealed.

The double murder, which occurred on April 11, 2025, saw a mob hack the father and son to death outside their home amid communal riots that erupted in the Muslim-majority district. The violence, claiming three lives and causing widespread property damage, forced hundreds of Hindu families to flee to neighboring areas.
Previously, brothers Kalu Nawab and Dildar Nawab, also from Jaffarabad, were arrested—Kalu from Suti near the India-Bangladesh border and Dildar from Murarai in Birbhum.
An 11-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Murshidabad DIG Syed Waquar Raza, is probing the murders and related violence, with 278 arrests made district-wide. Sarkar noted that it’s too early to determine if the killings were premeditated or spontaneous.
No fresh violence has been reported in the last four days, with normalcy returning to areas like Samsherganj, where 70% of shops have reopened, and Jangipur. Eighty-five displaced families have returned, supported by state and central security camps. “No perpetrator will escape justice,” Sarkar affirmed, emphasizing swift convictions.
