The Delhi High Court was evacuated on Friday morning after receiving a bomb threat via email, triggering widespread alarm. The email, received by Registrar General Arun Bhardwaj at 8:39 AM, claimed three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were planted in the court premises, with a warning of a blast after midday Islamic prayers. Judges began rising from their benches around 11:35 AM, and courtrooms were vacated by noon as a precautionary measure.
Delhi Police, along with bomb disposal and dog squads, swiftly cordoned off the court complex and initiated a thorough search of the premises. No explosive devices have been found so far, but authorities are treating the threat with utmost seriousness. The email, reportedly sent by an individual named Vijay Sharma, also referenced unrelated claims about recreating the 1998 Coimbatore blasts in Patna, raising questions about its credibility.
Security has been significantly heightened around the court, with staff, lawyers, and visitors asked to evacuate until at least 2:00 PM. The cyber police are investigating the email’s origin to trace its source. This incident follows a pattern of similar hoax threats targeting public institutions in India, prompting increased vigilance.
