A sudden explosion jolted the Thakur Dwar temple in Amritsar’s Khandwala area late Friday night, damaging its outer walls and shattering window panes. The blast, which occurred around midnight, triggered widespread alarm among local residents, though fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Security footage from the scene captured two unidentified individuals arriving on a motorcycle. After a brief pause, one of them hurled an explosive device toward the temple before both sped away. The incident, reported to authorities by the temple priest at approximately 2:00 am, prompted an immediate response from Amritsar police. Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, who visited the site with senior officials, confirmed that investigative teams are actively pursuing the suspects.
“We’re working to identify and apprehend those responsible,” Bhullar stated, expressing confidence in a swift resolution. Forensic experts have collected evidence from the blast site, and a detailed probe is underway to determine the nature of the explosive and the motive behind the attack.
This incident adds to a troubling pattern of explosions in the region, with multiple police posts in Amritsar and nearby Gurdaspur targeted over the past four months. The recurrence of such events has heightened concerns about security in Punjab’s border areas, prompting calls for stronger measures.
