Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav unleashed a scathing attack on the BJP, alleging a ruthless police crackdown on students at Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University in Barabanki. The students were protesting enrolment in an alleged unrecognised law course, not approved by the Bar Council of India, which they claim jeopardises their future. Videos circulating online show baton-wielding police clashing with demonstrators, prompting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to suspend the circle officer (city).
Yadav shared disturbing visuals on X, including police thrashing students and separate clashes between BJP and SP workers in Gorakhpur over a property dispute. He accused the BJP of staging apologies to mask internal power struggles, calling their gestures a “superficial balm” for deep wounds. “BJP leaders get their own people beaten, then whisper hollow apologies,” Yadav wrote in Hindi.
He claimed the Barabanki incident exposes a “battle for supremacy” within the BJP, with students and ABVP activists caught between factions like “Parishad” and “Vahini”. Yadav stated, “These videos of brutal thrashing have reached every home, waking students up to BJP’s disloyalty.” He demanded Rs 1 lakh compensation and proper medical care for injured students.
