The Congress leadership is holding a crucial round of internal discussions over the formation of Karnataka’s new cabinet, with an emerging proposal of appointing two to three deputy chief ministers gaining traction within the party, according to sources familiar with the deliberations.
The meeting comes amid ongoing consultations in Delhi and Bengaluru on power-sharing arrangements in the new government. The proposed formula reportedly seeks to ensure balanced representation from key social groups, with discussions centred on appointing leaders from Dalit and minority communities as deputy chief ministers, although no final decision has been reached.
Senior leaders including Chief Minister-designate Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister-designate DK Shivakumar are expected to play a central role in finalising the cabinet structure. A meeting involving top Congress leaders, including the state in-charge and organisational officials, is being held to assess portfolio distribution and representation across castes and regions.

According to party sources, several senior legislators are being considered for ministerial positions in the new cabinet, including experienced leaders from multiple factions of the Karnataka Congress unit. The leadership is reportedly keen to bring in a mix of seasoned politicians and younger faces, signalling a generational shift in the state administration.
Alongside cabinet formation, discussions are also ongoing over key organisational posts, particularly the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee presidency. Leader Satish Jarkiholi is said to be a frontrunner, although internal debate continues over whether the party president should also hold a ministerial position or focus exclusively on organisational responsibilities ahead of the next assembly election cycle.
Sources indicate that the high command is evaluating whether combining government and party roles could dilute focus on organisational strengthening. Meanwhile, several MLAs have travelled to Delhi to lobby for cabinet inclusion, highlighting the intense competition for ministerial berths as the new government takes shape.
