A 20-year-old tribal woman gave birth on the roadside outside Maharaja Chet Singh Government District Hospital in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, after she was allegedly denied admission for delivery. The incident took place on the night of September 30 near the hospital campus gate, with the woman later alleging that staff refused to admit her because she belonged to the Musahar community.
The woman, identified as Rani, had reached the district hospital with her family as she went into labour. According to her allegation, hospital staff told her that they would not conduct her delivery. She and her family subsequently left the hospital, but she went into labour while they were returning and delivered the child near the entrance to the hospital campus.
The incident prompted an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the alleged refusal of admission and the treatment provided to the woman. The inquiry reportedly found negligence on the part of hospital staff in connection with the incident.

Following the inquiry, disciplinary action was taken against those found responsible. A doctor at the hospital was fired after the investigation established negligence, according to the report. The action came amid scrutiny of the hospital’s handling of the woman when she arrived seeking care during labour.
The case has also raised concerns over the allegation that Rani was denied admission because she belonged to the Musahar community. The allegation has not been presented as an established fact, while the inquiry into the hospital’s conduct focused on the negligence identified in connection with the incident.
The disciplinary action follows the reported roadside delivery outside the Bhadohi district hospital and the subsequent inquiry. Rani’s case has drawn attention to the treatment of patients seeking maternity care and the responsibility of hospital staff to respond appropriately when women arrive in labour.
