A social media post by a Bengaluru resident highlighting traffic congestion, power outages, and civic disruptions following rainfall has gone viral, reigniting public debate over the city’s infrastructure challenges. The post, shared on Reddit, described severe commuting delays and repeated power cuts that left many residents frustrated during what began as a welcome break from the heat.

The user said their usual 10–15 minute commute took nearly 70–80 minutes due to heavy traffic congestion across major roads. They described chaotic conditions with vehicles moving in all directions, constant honking, and lack of traffic management. The post also criticised the behaviour of cab drivers and delivery riders, alleging frequent rule violations such as wrong-side driving and use of footpaths, which further worsened the traffic situation.

The resident also pointed to the absence of adequate traffic police presence during peak congestion hours, which they said allowed the situation to spiral out of control. According to the post, the rainfall, which initially brought relief from heatwave conditions, quickly turned into a major inconvenience as roads became heavily jammed and mobility across the city slowed significantly.

The user said that even after reaching home, there was no electricity for hours, making it difficult to cope with the humid conditions. They also mentioned that internet services were affected in some areas, with repeated disruptions to connectivity adding to the inconvenience faced by residents.

The post further expressed frustration over what the user described as a long-standing infrastructure problem in Bengaluru, questioning the effectiveness of civic planning despite the city’s rapid technological growth. The user argued that while India has made advancements in areas like artificial intelligence and digital services, basic urban issues such as traffic management and drainage remain unresolved.

The post triggered widespread reactions on social media, with several users sharing similar experiences of delayed commutes, inflated ride-hailing fares, and waterlogging in residential areas. Some users reported basement flooding in apartment complexes, while others complained of prolonged power cuts and disrupted daily routines. The incident has once again brought attention to Bengaluru’s recurring monsoon-related infrastructure challenges.
