A suspected cylinder blast in Bengaluru’s Chinnayanpalya, Wilson Garden, resulted in the death of 10-year-old Mubarak and injured nine others on Friday morning. The explosion, occurring around 8:30 AM in a densely populated residential area, caused significant damage to 13 houses, prompting a swift response from authorities.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, after inspecting the site and visiting hospitals, announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for Mubarak’s family and assured that the government would cover medical expenses for the injured.
The blast, which occurred in a house rented by a three-member family and owned by Kasturamma, who is also hospitalized with burn injuries, is believed to be caused by a gas cylinder, though investigations are ongoing. “I have directed the BBMP Commissioner to repair damaged houses and rebuild any that collapsed entirely,” Siddaramaiah told reporters.
City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh noted that the boy was in a neighboring house at the time of the blast, while the family’s mother and child were also injured. The police, alongside the Bomb Disposal Squad, Anti-Terrorism Squad, State Disaster Response Force, and Fire Brigade, are clearing debris and investigating the precise cause, with bodies sent for post-mortem examination.
