The West Bengal government on Wednesday announced the allocation of portfolios for all 41 ministers in the newly formed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) administration, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari retaining several key departments, including Home, Land and Land Reforms, and Power. According to the official portfolio distribution, Adhikari will oversee the Home and Hill Affairs Department, Land and Land Reforms and Refugee Relief and Rehabilitation, Power, Information and Cultural Affairs, Personnel and Administrative Reforms, along with any departments that have not been assigned to other ministers.
The allocation consolidates several critical administrative and governance functions under the chief minister’s direct supervision. The announcement comes weeks after the formation of the new government. Adhikari and five cabinet colleagues were sworn in on May 9, while another 35 ministers took the oath of office on June 1. The council of ministers now comprises 19 cabinet ministers, three ministers of state with independent charge, and 19 ministers of state.
Among the prominent appointments, Swapan Dasgupta, who won the Rashbehari Assembly seat in Kolkata, has been entrusted with the Finance Department. The portfolio places him in charge of the state’s fiscal planning, budgeting, and financial administration at a time when the government is expected to outline its economic priorities.

Sharadwat Mukherjee, BJP MLA from Bidhannagar, has been appointed Health Minister. Former Union minister Nisith Pramanik has been assigned the North Bengal Development and Water Resources departments, while former state BJP president Dilip Ghosh will head Panchayats, Rural Development and Agricultural Marketing.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Agnimitra Paul has been given charge of the Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Department. The portfolio allocations complete the formation of the new cabinet and set the stage for the government’s policy and administrative agenda across key sectors, including finance, health, infrastructure, rural development, and governance.
