Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a contribution of Rs 5 crore to support relief and rehabilitation efforts in flood-ravaged Himachal Pradesh. The northern state has been grappling with severe devastation caused by a relentless monsoon season, and Assam’s aid aims to bolster recovery for affected communities.
Sarma expressed deep sorrow for the lives lost in the disaster, which has seen 133 major landslides, 95 flash floods, and 45 cloudbursts wreak havoc across Himachal Pradesh since June 20. In a post on X, he shared, “The devastating floods in Himachal Pradesh have caused immense loss of lives and property. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the affected.” He emphasized that the contribution, made on behalf of Assam’s people, will be directed to the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to aid in rebuilding efforts.
The funds are expected to support critical relief operations, including providing shelter, food, and medical assistance to thousands displaced by the natural calamities. Himachal Pradesh has faced unprecedented challenges this monsoon season, with infrastructure damage and disrupted livelihoods adding to the crisis. Assam’s timely support underscores the spirit of national unity in times of adversity, with Sarma’s administration stepping up to assist a state over 2,000 kilometers away.
