Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday met Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan in the national capital, holding discussions focused on the state’s development agenda, with particular emphasis on healthcare expansion and long-term economic growth initiatives.
During his meeting with Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, Sarma discussed a range of ongoing and proposed healthcare projects in Assam. He highlighted the state government’s efforts to strengthen medical infrastructure, including the establishment of new medical colleges, expansion of MBBS seats, and introduction of advanced treatment facilities such as proton beam therapy. The Chief Minister said he sought guidance on implementing these initiatives effectively to improve healthcare delivery in the state.
Sarma also acknowledged Nadda’s earlier role in strengthening the Bharatiya Janata Party’s organisational base in Assam during his tenure as national president. He credited the Union Minister with contributing significantly to the party’s electoral performance in the state and expressed appreciation for his continued support. The discussions also touched upon making Assam a regional hub for medical tourism through improved healthcare facilities and specialised treatments.

Later in the day, the Chief Minister met Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and briefed him on Assam’s overall development trajectory. He described the meeting as an opportunity to share updates on key growth initiatives being undertaken by the state government across infrastructure, healthcare, and investment promotion sectors.
Sarma said he valued the Vice President’s insights and described him as a leader of humility and dedication in public life. He also expressed hope for continued guidance in Assam’s vision of achieving “Viksit Assam,” aligned with broader national development goals.
The meetings come at a time when the Assam government is actively pursuing large-scale development projects aimed at transforming the state into a significant economic and institutional hub in the Northeast, with a strong focus on healthcare modernization and investment-driven growth.
