The Pasang Wangchuk Sona ISRO Space Laboratory, was inaugurated by Arunachal Pradesh Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona at Mechuka Government Higher Secondary School in the remote Shi-Yomi district. Established through a collaboration between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Muskaan Foundation, the state-of-the-art facility aims to spark curiosity and innovation among students by offering hands-on experience in space science and technology.
The laboratory, dedicated to the minister’s late father, Pasang Wangchuk Sona, honors his lifelong commitment to education’s transformative power. Speaking at the inauguration on Friday, Sona shared, “Today is an emotional and proud moment for me. This laboratory is a tribute to my father’s belief in education and curiosity. I hope it becomes a place where our children dream bigger, explore science fearlessly, and reach for the stars.”
Designed to foster scientific thinking, the lab will serve as a hub for learning, equipping students with tools to explore space technology and inspiring them to pursue careers in science. The facility is expected to bridge the educational gap in the remote region, empowering the youth of Shi-Yomi to contribute to India’s growing space ambitions.
